The Land of the gods: A Journey Through Italy, Greece, and Turkey

Are you looking for a family vacation that could bump a few things off of your bucket list?  Smithsonian Journey's has you covered.  They are currently offering a stunning voyage to the lands of Gods and Heroes.  This trip is a family adventure through Italy, Greece and Turkey that lasts from July 26 to August 6, 2011.

Starting at $4,895 a person, this trip will set you back a few bucks.  However, that rate is extremely cheap considering everything that is packed into this vacation.

Climb aboard the Corinthian II and travel around the Mediterranean.  Experience the history, unbelievable sites, and incredible culture all around.  Along your trip, you will sail by the Island of Sicily and have the opportunity to view the Stromboli Volcano.  Lunch will be served overlooking the caldera in Santorini.  Of course, no trip to southern Europe would be complete without visiting the history rich City of Rome.

This trip is sure to satisfy the adults and the kids.  For your young explorers, Smithsonian Journeys will allow them to take part in a mock archaeological excavation, hunt for treasure in ancient Athens, and learn about stars, constellations, and navigation.

While the kids are participating in an ancient world grape stomp, the adults will be tasting a variety of Mediterranean wines.  Other activities include a visit to the Heraklion Museum which contains some of the best and most important Minioan artifacts from Knossos and an original Olympic competition for the kids at the stadium of Olympia.

Several of the sites included in the visit are the Historic Center of Rome, Archaeological areas Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast of Italy, medieval city of Rhodes, Greece, and the Acropolis in Athens.

Again, the trip isn't for those on the tightest of budgets, but for those able and willing to spend, it offers a once in a lifetime opportunity.  You could just take a private trip to the area, but with Smithsonian Journeys, you and your family are sure to be provided with a thrilling and educational experience.
